Appleton Launches Mobile Parking Payment App
Starting Wednesday you can now leave your change at home if you want to park at meters in downtown Appleton. We launched a new mobile parking app to pay by phone for metered parking downtown.
“This is something we know downtown visitors have been asking for and we’re really excited to launch this technology in Appleton today,” said Mayor Tim Hanna.
We partnered with Passport Parking to provide the smartphone app. The app is available for download for Apple and Android devices. Payment can be made by debit or credit card. You can also add money via a digital wallet in $20 increments.
The app allows you to extend parking time remotely – provided it is within the time limit of the parking space. You can also receive notifications when your time is about to expire. The meters will still accept coins as well if you prefer that method. The app is available for use at all of the almost 1,000 metered parking spaces across downtown.
Passport Parking is also the mobile parking payment provider for Green Bay and Fond du Lac. The app works the same in all of the communities, providing another layer of convenience if you commute between or visit those cities.
Launching the mobile parking payment app is the latest implementation of recommendations from a downtown parking study in 2015. Other changes we've made include converting parking ramps to pay-on-exit with rates based on hours parked instead of a flat rate. Providing longer hours of on-street parking at a reduced rate north of Washington St. and reducing enforcement of on-street metered parking hours to 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
