Motorcycle Crash Under Investigation
The Appleton Police Department is continuing to investigate a Tuesday afternoon motorcycle crash, which sent a man to the hospital with critical injuries.
On September 12, 2017, at 3:16 PM, officers from the Appleton Police Department responded to a crash at the intersection of North Ballard Road and the off-ramp of northbound I-41. The crash involved an automobile travelling southbound on N. Ballard Road and a motorcyclist exiting the off-ramp of I-41 to northbound N. Ballard Road.
The motorcyclist, a 51 year-old male from Seymour, was transported by ambulance to a local hospital. He is being treated for serious head injuries. He was not wearing a helmet.
The driver of the car, a 16 year-old female from Appleton and her passenger, were not injured in the crash.
Investigators have reviewed video from traffic cameras and interviews of witnesses are ongoing. The preliminary indications show the motorcyclist proceeded through a red light and was struck by the southbound vehicle; which was facing a green light.
The Wisconsin State Patrol provided investigative assistance to officers from the Appleton Police Department. Traffic was diverted from the area to allow the crash scene to be photographed and for measurements to be collected. Traffic was reopened at 6:50 PM.
The investigation is continued. No citations have been issued. Alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the crash.
