50M Pool, other amenities highlight redesigned Erb Park
Monday night the Parks and Recreation Committee got a glimpse of the latest proposal to renovate Erb Park.
The design created by MSA Professional Services calls for a 50M competition swimming pool with a separate recreational pool that features a zero-depth entry for swimmers of all ages.
The design for the park features a new pavilion, new tennis and basketball courts, park trails as well as sledding and ice skating opportunities and a new parking lot.
The common council authorized the city to spend up to $10.5 million to build a new 50M pool and renovate the park. Depending on the final options chosen, the concept and amenities may change.
The Parks and Recreation Committee will meet again on April 11 to discuss the project. The committee will make a recommendation on the design that will ultimately go to the common council for approval.
The project is slated to begin with demolition of the existing park facilities later this summer with a goal of reopening the park sometime in 2017.
