City Departments Working Together on Storm Related Issues (posted April 10, 2013)
Multiple departments from the City of Appleton are working together to resolve issues created by the late season storm that passed through the Appleton area this morning. The storm left behind a large amount of ice which caused many wires and tree branches to fall. Some property damage, scattered power outages and many traffic hazards have been reported. City departments are currently working with We Energies to aid in the restoration of power to areas of the city that are experiencing outages.
To assist in the efforts to restore power throughout the community, citizens are being asked to report power outages directly to We Energies at 1-800-662-4797. Citizens may be asked by We Energies to provide specific information regarding the outages they are reporting. We Energies has mobilized many employees to address the storm related issues.
The Appleton Police Department and Appleton Fire Department are also reminding citizens to be cautious around downed wires. Although many downed wires are related to cable television services, please treat all wires as being potentially energized. Stay away from downed wires and do not attempt to move any wires. Drivers should also pay particular attention while approaching intersections that may have traffic signals that are not operating. Those intersections should be treated as a 4-way stop intersection.
For additional information, please contact Sgt. Lund at 832-5509 or 419-5180.
