Marines Recreate Classic Sculpture
in Living Form
The living Iwo Jima Marine Memorial float made its
original debut in July 1946 in Racine, WI, and has participated in
every 4th of July parade since then. The float has six riders who are
all Marines. The Marines assume a rigid pose and hold that pose anywhere
from 30 to 45 minutes.
The equipment is authentic WWII. The uniforms
are authentic WWII uniforms that are painted bronze. Make-up is used
to complete the effect so that the float looks like the Marine Corps
War Memorial in Arlington, VA.
Agerholm-Gross Detachment #346 Marine
Corps League's mission is an attempt to recapture the essence of a
pivotal time in American History and to refocus some measure of thinking
about Patriotism, Devotion to Duty, and Self-Sacrifice. The float is
the symbol of the word: Marine.
Agerholm-Gross Marine Corps League
Detachment #346 is proud of their heritage, proud of America, and proud
to be Marines.
