The Operations Coordinator is responsible for planning and coordinating APD's involvement in a multitude of special events in the City of Appleton.  This planning process includes representing our agency at ongoing Parade Committee, Octoberfest Committee, and Appleton Special Event Committee meetings.  They work closely with event organizers, private businesses, and other city departments to ensure the events are planned and run properly.  The planning process for special events reflects the safety of participants being a top priority.

The Operations Coordinator is also responsible for maintaining our rotating wrecker list program.  Duties in this area involve holding meetings with the tow services on our rotating list, investigating any complaints of tow services from citizens and competitors, and completing the bidding process for our contract wrecker/abandoned vehicle service.  This position conducts inspections of our tow services to ensure they are following City of Appleton ordinances as well as state statutes.

This position handles the posting of various overtime opportunities such as special events, College Avenue and traffic grant details, and various contracted security positions.  Grant details require extensive documentation and record-keeping for DOT, ongoing communication with OUSO and the other agencies involved in our grants, entry of activity sheets into an online database, and processing of overtime slips.  They also write contracts with individuals and groups who wish to hire officer(s) for off-duty details, develop security plans where appropriate, assign officer(s) to the details, and complete the billing process.  They must maintain a master annual overtime log that is updated daily to ensure fair distribution of sign-up overtime opportunities according to our process for assigning overtime assignments.

It is essential that the Operations Coordinator maintain ongoing in-house communication with officers, supervisors, and CSO's, regarding issues that come up that directly involve the various units of our agency. They are tasked with researching equipment needed by the unit, purchasing new equipment as necessary, and keeping our in-house equipment stocked and available while working within our budget limitations.  In addition to all the tasks mentioned here and many more, they cover patrol shifts occasionally as needs arise.
