Women in Public Safety
The third annual "Women in Public Safety: Investing Today for a Safer Tomorrow" one-day event will provide young women with a hands-on experience within the fields of public safety. This immersive day will be led by local women in public safety. Our goal is to give young women a comprehensive, first-hand account of those currently in the field.
The day will provide career exploration opportunities and one on one mentorship to attendees. A broad spectrum of interests will allow for further consideration of career topics and help guide women on how to prepare for a career in public safety. This event will be a platform for the next generation of women leaders to change historically male-dominated fields. This event supports the common goal of local agencies to create an inclusive culture within public safety.
Public Safety has always been comprised of a small percentage of women which means they are less visible to the community. We must look to the future and the next generation of women to improve this number. This event will empower attendees to be comfortable in knowing that all women are equally capable of excelling in challenging and often critical careers.
No matter the career path an attendee takes, we hope they leave this event stronger and more confident as members of our community. The characteristics, typically identified as female attributes, are something that we want to empower them to use in any career path. Women in public safety are more effective in their professions using these attributes: strong communication skills, sensitivity, supportiveness, creative problem-solving, and empathy. After leaving the event we hope to have continued mentorship opportunities and create lasting relationships with women leaders.
